I never realized how much work it is to hand wax a car. The object of my toil last week was our spare car, a 1993 Subaru SVX LS-L 25th Anniversary Limited Edition, with touring package in Barcelona Red.

The Subaru SVX was Subaru's attempt to enter the luxury/performance car category. Its prototype was designed by the renowned designer Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign. Subaru made about 25,000 SVXs from 1992 to 1997. About 14,000 were imported to the United States. There are about 600 of this 1993 25th Anniversary model.

Some specs for car nerds: AWD, 3.3 liter 6 cylinder 24 valve DOHC Boxer engine, 230 horsepower at 5400 rpm, torque: 228 @4400 rpm. Top speed is 154 mph. No, I haven't driven it that fast. My husband may have, at the Porsche Club track where it is legal and safe.

Obviously, this is not practical car for a household with two young children. However, despite its age and bad paint job, we've become too attached to this car over the past eight years to let it go. As far as I know, this is the only SVX in the RGV. If there are any other Subaru enthusiasts in this area, we'd like to hear from you in the comments.

These cars are amazing and deserve every bit of loving attention they get from the people who 'get' the cars and value them for what they are, amazing touring coupes!

I traveled over 1,600 miles to obtain my SVX earlier this year and regardless of the recent minor annoyances of issues that come up from time to time, the SVX is simply an amazing piece of work that I'm more than proud to own and care for.

As far as kids go, I don't know what your talking about ;) my 5-year old daughter thinks the car is awesome and doesn't seem to mind being tossed in the back on her sporty pink princess kid holder :D

Long live the SVX!

Hi Clint! Sorry for my bad memory, but are you the Clint we've met at SVX meets?

On kids, you're right in that mine love to ride in it. And our SVX did great with our family of 4 on a long trip this summer (even with luggage strapped on the roof a la Vacation - lol). But my back hurts after a long day of soccer mom-ing with the SVX. Maybe I'm just old.:)

Nope, not the same Clint... I've yet to make it to a meet but hope to sometime next year :). Are you on the subaru-svx.net networks?

I'm anxious to take a really nice long trip in this car! Most likely not with four people, but two.

Take care and enjoy the awesome SVX! :D

Yes, my husband does read the SVX network forums. We usually go to one meet per year, at the Dragon in Fontana Dam, NC. Lots of fun driving there--maybe we'll see you there in 2009!
